Menu Plan Monday

Here's the plan for the week:

Monday - Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Corn

Tuesday - Tomato Beef Roast. Not sure if I will be using red tomatoes or if we have any green tomatoes left. We got some of each from my in-laws and the green tomatoes were wonderful fried! Roast will be served with green beans and squash.

Wednesday - Not sure yet. Leave a comment...Anyone have a good recipe for a main-dish salad?

Thursday - Roast Chicken, Rice, Peas

Friday - Macaroni Grill boxed dinner with leftover chicken, salad

Saturday - It's my youngest daughter's birthday! Headed to the in-laws for the afternoon and for lunch/dinner/cake!

Sunday - TBD

Precious Girls Club Book Review and Giveaway

It's my first giveaway on my blog! I am so excited!

The lovely folks at MomSelect sent me the second book in the Precious Girls Club series, Operation Kindness, as well as two stickers, one ink pen (pink!), and one of the new mini plush paws dogs! They also sent me a set of the same items to give away to one lucky reader of my blog!

My daughter has enjoyed reading Operation Kindness. This book is at the perfect reading level for a girl just getting into reading chapter books. The story revolves around Katie Bennett and her friends. They are trying to cheer up kids in the Shine Community Hospital and are running into many obstacles in the process, but nothing they can't overcome!

We have also been visiting the web site quite regularly. From the site: "Girls can sign up to learn and play in a safe, wholesome environment. Girls create their own characters (or "avatars"), decorate their rooms, explore the town, socialize, play games and even shop "virtually" using the points they earn on the site. PGC games reinforce such virtues as helpfulness, kindness, responsibility, loving and caring. In addition to points, many activities award "virtual" virtue charms. And, it's all fun!" I also send "email" to my daughter there and can send her "rewards" based on her behavior in the real world, which help her earn points on the site. She loves this and I feel great about rewarding her for good behavior in this way. Points are also earned by entering codes found on Precious Girls Club products (including the books).

Some people argue that the value of being "precious" and innocent is being lost in our culture today. Little girls are growing up too fast all around us. The media seems to enjoy pointing this out! I often have trouble just going to the bookstore and finding age-appropriate books for my daughter to read that aren't all about finding a boyfriend! She's only 7 years old, for goodness sake!!!

Moms can feel confident in the fact that this is a safe, fun book their daughters will enjoy. We have been trying to find the first book in the series but with no luck. Hopefully we will find it soon! Go here to find out where Precious Girls Club products are sold near you.

Now for the giveaway!

Leave a comment below and tell me what you like best about the Precious Girls Club site. That's it! Easy peasy!

This contest is open to U.S. residents only. One entry per household. Winner will be notified by email, so be sure to leave a valid email address. If I am unable to contact you, I will choose another winner.

This giveaway ends at 10 p.m. July 26, 2009. The winning entrant's number will be chosen using Random.org. Good luck!

Funniest Five Momfinitions

ParentsConnect and Twittermoms are getting together for a Momfinitions contest! We all know parenting has its own language.

Here are some of my own Momfinitions:

Ring of Sanity - a fenced-in back yard. Where Mom sends her kids when she needs a break. "If you don't get out of this house and into the Ring of Sanity, you will be sorry!!!"

Guilty Craftonscience - What a Mom has when she throws her child's craft projects and/or drawn pictures away. Wife: "Honey, I have a really guilty craftonscience." Husband: "What are you talking about?!!" Wife: "I cleaned out my office and had to throw away a bunch of papers, even the kids' drawings!" Husband: "Ah, they'll never know. Don't worry about it." (He's such a sensitive man...NOT!)

Momdex - the "cleaning fluid" used when Mom licks her thumb and then cleans a child's face. Mom: "Your face is a mess. Cm'here...I've some some Momdex for ya." Kid: "Mom!!! That's gross!!!" Mom: "Hush! Just let me clean your face."

Crumb Collector - A mini-van. Must be vacuumed regularly! Wife: "The Crumb Collector is a mess!!!" Husband: "I'll wash it and get it vacuumed this weekend."

Homecut - A haircut by mom! Meant to save money to be spent on groceries, because children are eating machines!!! Mom: "Come on...time for your homecut!" Kid: "Alright, but don't make my hair look crazy!"

I hope you think these are at least a little funny, and maybe true to life?!! They certainly are in my house. Please leave a comment and tell me what you think! Then go over to your own blog and post your own Momfinitions! I can't wait to read everyone's creative "terms"!!!

Tennessee Sales Tax Holiday

Hi Everyone! I'm back from a long weekend of family activities!

Are you getting ready to head back to school? It's going to be here sooner than we know it! In our county, school starts August 10th. Talk about early!

The State of Tennessee is offering a sales tax holiday the weekend before school starts here! The dates are August 7th to August 9th. Here's what's included as tax free:

Clothing up to $100
School Supplies $100 or less
Computers $1500 or less

Go here for a complete list of tax-exempt items.

Budget and plan to get what you can that weekend. From past experience, I also recommend going first thing Friday morning unless you want to fight the crowds later on.

Thank you to Alyssa at Kingdom First Mom for reminding me about this!
